On 12 June 2023, the MSceBSCM and MScMIB Programmes, led by Professor Yan Aihua, embarked on a two-day study tour to Macau. The study tour aimed to provide students with a better understanding of Macau’s history, culture, and technological development, as well as to expand their international perspectives and enrich their learning experience.

On the first day of the study tour, the focus was on exploring Macau’s attractions. The day began with a visit to Rua do Cunha, a bustling street famous for its souvenir shops. The students also visited several iconic landmarks, including the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Templo de A-Má, and St. Dominic’s Church. These visits provided the students with an immersive experience of Macau’s rich history, culture, and architectural heritage, deepening their appreciation for this unique destination.

The second day of the study tour was centered around promoting cross-cultural communication and academic exchange. The students got the chance to visit teamLab SuperNature, an innovative creative space that seamlessly blends digital art, technology, and interactive experiences. The students were able to explore the mesmerizing world of digital art and gain first-hand exposure to the latest advancements in technology. In the afternoon, under the guidance of Professor Yan Aihua, the students traveled to the City University of Macau. Professor Ding Shengyong shared a talk about data science, 3D models, and artificial intelligence. The students engaged in meaningful discussions with local students and professors. By sharing their own unique perspectives and experiences, the students were able to deepen their understanding of different cultures and establish new bonds of friendship.

The students have expressed that this study tour was a rewarding journey, and they also appreciate the meticulous planning and organization by the teachers. Chen Hongyu, a participant from the MSceBSCM Programme, commented on the study trip saying, “What impressed me the most was the visit to the City University of Macau, where I gained learning experience in the research of artificial intelligence and experienced the unique academic atmosphere of Macau. The trip left me with fresh memories and new insights.” This activity not only allowed students to better understand Macau’s developments, but also provided an invaluable opportunity for learning and growth.

The study tour also included a journey through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, allowing students to appreciate the magnificence of the bridge and experience China’s technological development and internationalization. Overall, the study tour provided students with a comprehensive and immersive experience of Macau, encouraging them to broaden their horizons and develop a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and global perspectives.
